UTDS/UNDP Unawatuna cleanning project
Project Objectives
  • To improve the immediate cash flow within the community
  • To clear from all the debris caused by Tsunami
  • Clearing the water ways from debris and resetting the waste water draining system in the village
  • Repaiaring the effected rain water drains in the village
Project Implementing Procedures
  • 340 villagers were provide with work on "cash for work" basis for a month duration (28 days)
  • The whole village had been divided into 5 parts (based on GS divisioning) and deployed the work force according to the voloume of the debris in the each area.
  • Debris had been collected accordingly and seperated,for re use in future construction purposes. Clay bricks, cement bricks, wood and iron been collected seperately

Basic Assistance Program (BRAP)-2005
Project Objectives
  • To provide immediate relief needs for the families effected by Tsunami
  • To establish tempoary settlements.
  • To calculate the voloume of needs and assesment of the distruction
Project Implementing Procedures
  • 320 familiy units were provide with immediate relief assistance such as tempory shelter, kitchen utencils, sleeping items,clothing and other immediate needs for the tempory settlement.
  • The whole village had been divided into 5 parts (based on GS divisioning) and select the "dispatch committies" from the clusters. Every dispatch committe is responsible for collecting the information from the people in the respective divisions been effected by Tsunami and report their needs, to the BRAP main operation

Small Scale Housing Project
Project Objectives
UTDS with the support of private funding by the business community as well as the individuals of the area, UTDS sucessesfuly implemented the Small Scale Housing Project for displaced families. This been based on different levels in the practice of the overall project structure and as follows;

1. Provide housing facilities for completely displaced families in the area, wishing to re-establish their houses in the same location.

2. Provide housing facilities for completely displaced families in the area, wishing to re-establish their housing in a separate location within the guide lines of government's 100m rule. Accordance with the conditions of UTDS related to the overall housing package is excluded from providing the plot of land for the building processes.

Project Volume
Project volume has been calculated as SLR 2.0 Million, which covers 2 new housing units (basic) and renovation of 5-partly effected houses in the area.
